Q. Can I use Storage Spaces Direct and shared storage on the same cluster?
A. No. Storage Spaces Direct was introduced in Windows Server 2016 and enabled local storage on each node in a cluster to be aggregated and used as a resilient cluster shared volume across the cluster, removing the need for actual shared storage. Once Storage Spaces Direct is enabled, regular shared storage, e.g. a SAN, will no longer function.
