Is SQL University's professional development week as cool as Shark Week?
I’m honored to be part of the the SQL University community project this week. Mike Walsh and I will be exploring topics related to professional development. Of course, my entire L.E.A.P. blog is focused on this topic in various ways so the SQL University theme isn’t too much of a stretch for me. I’m pretty sure that the fall 2011 Professional Development week at SQL University will be as cool as Shark Week on The Discovery Channel. Or maybe not. :)

Before I go any further check out SQLUniveristy.org if you are not already familiar with it. The concept was started by Jorge Segarra a few years ago and now involves a large number of community experts and leaders. It’s a great resource!
My SQL University theme will explore the idea of setting intentional direction and purpose in your career and life. I cheated and started with two posts last week.
“What's the difference between a choice and a mistake? Choose to stop making mistakes!” and “Where are your goals are taking you? Are you paddling or bobbing in the current?” both begin to explore the topic from different perspectives. I have a few posts planned for the rest of the week around the same theme.

Mike Walsh, Tom LaRock, and I are also planning some ‘office hours’ on Google+ next week to explore topics related to professional development in the SQL Server community. We haven’t set the time, but I will update this blog as soon as we have the details. I hope you’ll join us!
I don’t think my musings this week will be quite as exciting as watching a great white leap out of the water. But I can dream. :) Either way, I hope that my work this week will impact your life and career in a positive way.
