I am getting an error 4409 selecting on a view ever since I applied SP5 to SQL 6.5.

A. This is a bug introduced with SP5. You should contact Microsoft PSS for a hot-fix - build 422 and greater contains this fix. Therefore SP6 will contain the fix when it is released.
