Cybersecurity Startups Make Waves at RSAC 2022

Some of the most interesting new products unveiled at RSAC 2022 this week are from companies you’ve probably never heard of.

The flood of newcomers makes a lot of sense: Cybersecurity startups raised a whopping $29.5 billion in venture capital last year, more than double the amount in 2020, according to a report by Momentum Cyber.

Here’s a roundup of the announcements from startups.

Israeli application security company Checkmarx introduced a software product that deals with application vulnerabilities. The context-aware software, called Fusion, uses a correlation engine to enable full visibility into applications, component interactions, and bills of materials to correlate and prioritize vulnerabilities, the company said. Checkmarx Fusion is part of Checkmarx One, an application security platform. 

Mobile security startup Pixm launched Pixm Mobile, a cloud-based service that identifies and blocks phishing attacks on mobile devices. The company said Pixm Mobile can stop phishing on any app, including SMS, social media, business collaboration apps, email, and web-based phishing pages. The product’s secret sauce is computer vision cybersecurity technology, a type of AI software that uses convolutional networks and machine learning models trained on millions of labeled images.

Application security vendor Mend (formerly WhiteSource) released the Mend Application Security Platform, which targets code security issues. Mend said the platform can automatically find and fix application security holes involving both open source and custom code. The platform provides automated remediation for both software composition analysis and static application security testing, presented directly in the developer’s repository, for integration into the developer workflow.

Conceal (formerly NetAbstraction) unveiled ConcealBrowse, a product that prevents malware from executing on endpoints. ConcealBrowse performs pre- and post-processing of code in an isolated environment at the edge to protect against browser-based attacks. ConcealBrowse integrates with Microsoft Active Directory and other identity management systems.

Cybersecurity startup Fortanix took the wraps off two blockchain security offerings. Fortanix Non-Custodial Warm Wallet ensures that digital assets aren’t misused by a wallet provider without consent via a two-factor authentication token. Fortanix Ignite One-Time Signer, meanwhile, helps to verify the legitimacy of blockchain transactions. The new tools integrate with the Fortanix Data Security Manager, a suite of services designed specifically for blockchain, cryptocurrency, and decentralized finance businesses.

RSAC 2022 named Talon Cyber Security the “Most Innovative Startup,” based on the strength of the company’s secure enterprise browser. The company’s browser, TalonWork, aims to provide a secure environment for managed and unmanaged endpoints regardless of location, device type, or operating system.
