Group Policy Management Editor Support Added to Privilege Manager
Moving beyond trust with BeyondTrust
November 23, 2008
BeyondTrust today announced that Privilege Manager 4.1, its least-privilege desktop-security solution implemented as a Group Policy extension, now supports Microsoft Group Policy Management Editor (GPE). Least-privilege security practice is as it sounds—giving users the least amount of privileges needed with the goal of reducing the prevalence of admin privileges. The integration with GPE is meant to make the process of achieving that goal easier than before. “Group Policy has become the de facto standard mechanism for managing desktop settings and maintaining standardized and secure desktop configurations in a Windows environment,” said John Moyer, CEO of BeyondTrust. Privilege Manager supports GPE on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista SP1 computers that have Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) installed. Privilege Manager also offers new options for logging user execution of applications and the ability to elevate rules to allow software installation in MSI format from CD-ROMs and DVDs.
