CloudSigma Adds Support for Oracle Solaris

Cloud server and virtual data center provider CloudSigma has added support of Solaris, Oracle's enterprise operating system, to its cloud platform. Solaris supports more than 11,000 third-party enterprise applications.

CloudSigma views its offering as an ideal platform for companies migrating legacy systems to the cloud or setting up testing and development environments in the cloud because they are not required to change their existing deployments or operating systems, like Solaris, to transition to CloudSigma. The research firm Ovum recently forecast that the public cloud services sector would reach $66 billion by 2016.

New Solaris deployments can be made to CloudSigma’s platform simply and without provisioning delay, according to the company. Customers are granted full, sole root access and control Drives and servers can be cloned, allowing server clusters to be created using customers' own customized templates, CloudSigma said. The platform also features software-level control of cloud servers in the CloudSigma platform, allowing users to implement their own security policies on their servers with regards to operating system, application access and networking firewalls.
