I am missing the forwarder and Root Hints tabs in DNS 5.0.

A. This is caused if your server thinks it is the root server in thedomain, and will hence have a "." zone. To enable the forwarder youneed to delete this zone from your server:

  1. Start the DNS Management MMC snap-in (Start - Programs - AdministrativeTools - DNS Management)

  2. Expand the server, expand Forward Lookup Zones and select "."

  3. Right click and select Delete

  4. Click Yes to the confirmation

  5. Stop and Start the DNS manager and the tabs are available

This can also be done from the command line using:

C:> dnscmd /ZoneDelete . /DsDel

The /DsDel is required if the zone is Active Directory integrated
