When will Microsoft release Service Pack 7 for Windows NT 4.0?
May 1, 2001
A. Microsoft has decided not to release Service Pack 7 (SP7) for Windows NT 4.0, despite the many hotfixes the company has released since SP6a. Microsoft originally planned to release SP7 for three reasons:
To provide an easier mechanism to deploy security fixes/hotfixes
To provide an NT 4.0 Active Directory (AD) client (you can download this as a separate component from http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/news/bulletins/adextension.asp)
To provide international versions of the Internet Explorer (IE) High Encryption pack (you can download these from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie)
Because Microsoft has addressed two of the three goals, the company feels that another service pack isn't justified. Visit http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/sp7.asp for a full statement.
