When you use Windows XP to search for files or folders over a WAN link you receive:

Search is complete. There are no results to display.

Your event log records:

Event ID: 3019
Source: MRXSMB
Detail: The redirector failed to determine the connection type

This behavior may occur when you search for files or folders over a VPN (Virtual Private Network) link through a DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) or cable modem.

To workaround this behavior, enable the Search tape backup option when you search over a WAN to compensate for the network delay.

You can enable this option manually when you expand Advanced Options and check the Search tape backup box, or you can use the AdvancedSearchOptions.bat script.
