Netscape to deliver new version of Communicator

Netscape Communications will post a new version of its Communicator suite,version 4.04, this week to its Web site. Communicator 4.04 adds U.S.government encryption support and America Online's Instant Messenger to thealready full-featured suite.

Netscape Communications will post a new version of its Communicator suite,version 4.04, this week to its Web site. Communicator 4.04 adds U.S.government encryption support and America Online's Instant Messenger to thealready full-featured suite.

Announced a month ago, the deal with America Online gives Internet usersthe ability to reach AOL users in real time. AOL has used a "Buddy List"message system for some time, but it only worked for people using the AOLonline service. The feature allows users to communicate, live, in achat-like environment.

The new Communicator also adds support for Fortezza II, a new securitytechnology based on the U.S. government encryption standard.

Other new features include a faster Java interface and browser compatibility with the Novell Client 32 software. Netscape says the newsoftware will be available sometime on Thursday, but it wasn't up as thisissue of WinInfo was written
