Netscape posts standalone Navigator 4.02 for Windows 95 and NT

Well, it's official: Netscape is not only releasing a standalone Navigator4.02 browser, they've already uploaded it to their Web site! The 7.7MB download contains the Navigator browser and Netcaster push components fromCommunicator only.

"Today, Netscape is expanding its client product line by combining the world's most popular browser with state-of-the-art push technology, and bringing it to millions of new users everywhere," said Mike Homer, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Netscape. "The Netscape Navigator client continues to deliver to users low cost of ownership and aneasy-to-use interface, providing a simple and familiar way to access all ofthe exciting and useful information on the Internet and Intranets."

You can download Navigator 4.02 now from the Netscape Web site.

The company will sell the browser for $39 and allow buyers to eventuallyupgrade to the full Communicator suite if desired. Netscape announced thatHewlett-Packard, Lotus, IBM, Digital, Sun, Silicon Graphics and Novell willall license Navigator 4.0. I guess it was a good idea after all
