Microsoft Corporation is now offering two tools that will remove the UniqueIdentifier from Office 97 documents and remove that feature from Officealtogether. This issue came up last week as privacy groups said thatMicrosoft was able to discover the originator of documents over the Internetusing the identifier. While there are valid reasons to want your documentsto be marked this way, Microsoft has caved into privacy pressures andreleased tools that will remove the feature from Office 97 completely andremove the Ids from existing documents. You can find these tools on theOffice Update Web site.

Not coincidentally, Microsoft has decided to remove this feature from Office2000, due this quarter
