Microsoft this week released this final version of Internet Explorer 4.0for Windows 3.1 and Windows NT 3.51, bringing these operating systems intothe current-generation of Web browsing features.

"We are pleased to offer our customers the ease of use and security features already available in Internet Explorer 4.0 for Windows 95," saidYusuf Mehdi, director of marketing in the application and Internet clientgroup at Microsoft. "With unique features such as the acclaimed ExplorerBars, standards-based Dynamic HTML, Active Channel content and SecurityZones, Internet Explorer 4.0 is a great upgrade for anyone using Windows3.1."

Internet Explorer 4.0 for Windows 3.1 also include rich HTML mail with theOutlook Express e-mail client, which also supports multiple email accountsand customized stationery. Unlike its Windows 95/NT relation, however,Outlook Express for Windows 3.1 does not included integrated newsgroupfeatures.

The new browser also supports Active Channel content and webcasting supportbut not Active Destktop. It does include support for the latest HTML standards from the World Wide Web consortium (W3C) such as Dynamic HTML support, ECMA Script (JavaScript), Channel Definition Format (CDF), LDAP, IMAP and Java.

Internet Explorer 4.0 for Windows 3.1 and Windows NT 3.51 will be availablein 20 languages other than English over the next 90 days. It can be downloaded free of charge from Microsoft's IE 4.0 Web site
