JSI Tip 9654. You receive a 'Help and Support Error - Service not started' in Windows XP?

When you attempt to use Help and Support in Windows XP, you receive a Service not started error.

To resolve this error:

1. Open a CMD.EXE window.

2. Type the following commands and press Enter:

REG ADD HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetServiceshelpsvc /V Start /T REG_DWORD /F /D 2
net start helpsvc

3. If the Help and Support service fails to start, shutdown and restart your Windows XP computer.
