JSI Tip 9386. Your SBS 2003 server internal clients cannot resolve the your FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name)?

When your local clients try to locate your Small Business Server 2003 by using the FQDN, they receive:

The page cannot be displayedThe page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.. . . . . .Cannot find server or DNS Error

This behavior may occur if SBS 2003 has only one network adapter, that is behind a router that needs a firmware revision.

To workaround this issue:

01. Open the DNS snap-in from Administrative Tools.

02. Expand your server.

03. Right-click Forward Lookup Zones and press New Zone.

04. Press Next in the New Zone Wizard.

05. Leave the Primary zone option selected and press Next.

06. Select the replication option you require and press Next.

07. Type the external FQDN into the Zone name box, like www.jsiinc.com, and press Next.

08. With the Allow only secure dynamic updates (recommended for Active Directory) option selected, press Next.

09. Press Finish.

10. Expand Forward Lookup Zones and expand the new zone.

11. Right-click the new zone and press New Host (A).

12. Leave the Name box blank, and type the internal IP address of the SBS server into the IP address box.

13. Select the Create associated pointer (PTR) record box and press Add Host.

14. After you receive a successfully created message, press OK.

15. Press Done.

16. Exit the DNS snap-in.
