JSI Tip 9043. Potential problem when Windows XP is installed on the ninth logical partition?

If Windows XP is installed on the ninth (9) logical partition on your hard disk, and you insert a new partition in from of it, the Boot.ini file is NOT properly updated.

Normally, when you insert a new partition in front of your boot partition, the Boot.ini file is update to reflect the new boot partition number.

When Windows XP installed on the ninth logical partition, the update to partition 10 is incorrectly posted as partition 1.

This behavior occurs because the update process does NOT properly handle numbers greater than nine (9).

To workaround this behavior, manually adjust Boot.ini after you insert a new partition in front of your boot partition.
