In addition to the Microsoft Toolkit to Temporarily Block Delivery of Windows XP SP2 to a PC Through Automatic Updates and Windows Update, Harry Bates ([email protected]) has provided Block XPSP2.zip. Unzip Block XPSP2.zip and extract XPSP2Disable.exe and XPSP2Enable.exe.

You can run XPSP2Disable.exe on your Windows XP clients to disable delivery of SP2 for up to 120 days from August 16, 2004.

You can run XPSP2Enable.exe to delete the blocking Value Name, DoNotAllowXPSP2, a REG_DWORD data type, with a data value of 1, at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindowsWindowsUpdate.

NOTE: You can use a variety of tools to run these programs on each Windows XP workstation, including PsExec.
