JSI Tip 5418. Msinfo32.exe issues a 'Can't Collect Information' error in Windows XP?

When you restart your computer after using Msconfig.exe for a diagnostic Startup, Msinfo32.exe issues:

Can't Collect Information

Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation software. Windows Management files may be moved or missing.

This error will occur if the WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) service is NOT started.The service will NOT start if:

- You unchecked it on the Services tab of Msconfig.exe.
- It is Disabled.
- A dependent service is NOT started.
- the service is damaged.

To resolve this problem, the following services must be started:

Event Log

Windows Management Instrumentation

Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
