When you use the Windows 2000 DFS (Distributed File System) Wizard to create a new DFS root, you receive:

The following error occurred while creating DFS root. Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

You probably still have information from a previous DFS root in the registry.

To fix the problem, use the DFSutil.exe tool, from the SupportTools folder on the Windows 2000 CD-ROM, to clear the previous information:

dfsutil /clean:

Re-run the DFS Wizard.
