Microsoft has elected to declare Internet a restricted computer name. It can NOT be used by a domain controller, a member server, or a Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional client that is a member of a Windows 2000 domain.

If your server is named Internet and you run Dcpromo, you will receive:

Lsass.exe - System ErrorSecurity Accounts Manager initialization failed because of the following error: The specified user already exists. Error Status: 0x0000063.Please click OK to shutdown the system and reboot into Directory Services Restore mode, check the event log for more detailed information.

If you attempt to join a Windows 2000 domain with a compter named Internet, you receive one of the following:

Windows cannot create the new computer object because the pre-Windows 2000 computer name Name is already in use. Select another name, and then try again.

              OR

Your computer could not be joined to the domain because the following error has occurred: No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.

If you ran Dcpromo, you must restore your server from a backup taken prior to the attempted promotion. Then you must rename the computer before running Dcpromo again.

If you tried to join a Windows 2000 domain, rename your computer, shutdown and restart, and try again.
