If you type the NetBIOS domain name on the Windows 2000 client, you receive:

The following error occurred attempting to join the domain : The network path was not found.

If you type the Windows 2000 DNS domain name, you are greeted with:

The following error occurred attempting to join the domain : The remote computer is not available.

If your Windows 2000 domain controller does not have File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks enabled, this would be expected behavior.

To fix the problem on your Windows 2000 domain controller:

1. Open the Properties of your Local Area Connection.

2. Check the File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks box.

3. Press OK.
