When you start Windows XP, you receive an error similar to:

The application or DLL C:Windowssystem32winspool.drv is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

This behavior is symptomatic of a corrupt Winspool.drv file.

To resolve this behavior:

1. Open a CMD.EXE window.

2. Type the following command and press Enter:

ren %SystemRoot%System32winspool.drv winspool_drv.old

3. Shutdown and restart Windows XP.
