As expected, Intel announced price cuts of 13% to 40% on its Pentium andPentium II microprocessors. Effective next week, a Pentium II 266 will cost$530 (down from $669). The Pentium II 233 will drop to $401 from $530. Intel's fastest chip, the Pentium II 300 will drop only 13%, from $851 to$738.

An Intel spokesman said the price cuts are typical; Intel drops pricesevery quarter. Low-end chips, such as the Pentium MMX and Pentium MMX formobile computers are also getting cheaper. A Pentium MMX 166 drops to $112while the Pentium MMX 133 falls to $106.
