How can I configure Administrative alerts in Windows 2000?

A. Windows 2000 Professional doesn’t have a GUI interface that you can use to set Administrative alerts. Instead, you need to manually update the registry. To do so, complete the following steps:
Start regedt32.exe (not regedit.exe).
Move to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesAlerterParameters.
Double-click AlertNames.
On each line, enter the username or computer that you want to receive the alert.
Click OK.
Close the registry editor.
For machines to receive the alerts, their Alerter service must be running. You can use the Control Panel Services applet to start this service, or in Win2K, use the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) Computer Management snap-in and select the Services branch.
Win2K Server still includes a Server Manager (srvmgr.exe) version that you can also use to configure alerts. To do so, select a computer, select Properties from the Computer menu, and choose the Alerts button.
