Windows IT Pro has teamed up with Citrix and Intel to present a five-date roadshow focusing on client virtualisation that will visit France, Italy, the UK and Spain in October and November.

The Driving Desktop Innovation Desktop Virtualization European Roadshow will start at Citrix's French headquarters at Place de la Défense, Paris, on October 19 and then head to the Meliá Milano, Milan, on October 28. It then travels to Citrix's Chalfont Park UK headquarters in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, on November 9 with a repeat performance the next day on November 10. The roadshow concludes at the Ayre Gran Hotel Colón, Madrid, on November 16. The roadshows will feature expert speakers from each host country. Registration is free for all events (follow the links to each city above).

The Driving Desktop Innovation days will begin with insight from Intel about how desktop virtualization is being driven to its inflection point where mainstream adoption becomes the norm. This will be followed by sessions on Intel, Microsoft and Citrix's joint offerings and Intel's vPro in-built management platform. There will also be seminars on next-generation solutions such as XenDesktop FlexCast and type-1 client hypervisor XenClient. After lunch, attendees will be treated to a look under the covers of the Intel vPro engine, including its hooks, a guide to Synchronizer for XenClient and case studies on vPro and XenClient at work in enterprise-level European deployments.

Morning seminars are for IT pros, IT managers and solution architects while afternoon sessions should also be of interest to system integrators, resellers and VARs. The roadshows will feature expert speakers from each host country.

Irene Clapham, Windows IT Pro's managing director of European operations, says that while analyst estimates vary, it has been said that desktop, or client, virtualisation could grow into a $65.7 billion market by 2013.

"This would equate to more than 40 per cent of the worldwide professional PC market so this is certainly a white hot area for us right now," says Clapham. "We see huge amounts of reader activity on the subject across the Windows IT Pro network so we can tell there is a real thirst for knowledge about it amongst IT people. For many, desktop virtualisation is the next project on their whiteboards, so we're delighted to be hosting the Driving Desktop Innovation European Roadshow events across Western Europe."
