How can I export the Global Address List (GAL) from our Exchange Server 5.5 system and format the GAL for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) so that I can import it to a multifunction copier/printer?

Microsoft Exchange Administrator can export data to Comma Separated Value (CSV) files but can't export to LDAP Data Interchange Format (LDIF), which Active Directory (AD) and most LDAP directories on non-Windows platforms use. Most likely, your copier/printer has a configuration option that lets you tell it which LDAP server to use. Without reformatting your GAL or even exporting it, you can enable the LDAP protocol on your Exchange 5.5 server and point the copier/printer directly to the server.

If you do need to convert your exported CSV files to LDIF, you'll need a script. A Perl script in Marcel Gagné's Linux Journal article "You Can Get There from Here, Part 4" (http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=5566) might work. The conversion consists mostly of reformatting, so the task shouldn't be too difficult.
