Session 3: Tuning the New SharePoint 2010 Environment
April 11, 2012
Presented by: Colin Spence
Running Time: 75 min
Once the SharePoint 2010 environment is in place, an organization will have a golden opportunity to optimize the site collections (including site, list, and library configurations) as well as the toolsets offered to end users. However, overbuilding or overcomplicating the environment can have serious drawbacks so a balance must be reached between the richness of features offered and IT’s ability to manage the environment. We'll review a number of powerful, but sometimes confusing, SharePoint 2010 tools such as content type syndication hubs, managed metadata, document sets and variations with an eye on best practice implementations. We'll also look at tools that will be valuable to IT and site collection administrators such as web analytics reports, search keywords, site collection audit settings, and site collection policies. It's also vitally important to put in place governance tools and practices at this point or issues that may have been encountered with SharePoint 2007 may repeat themselves in SharePoint 2010. We'll provide an overview of how third-party tools can enhance IT’s ability to manage the SharePoint 2010 environment. An overarching goal of this session is to provide attendees with a checklist to follow to make sure the SharePoint 2010 environment is optimized to meet the organizational requirements that IT understands key governance and support challenges.
