Microsoft has now given the Skype for Business transformative update a KB article number and it's ready to roll.
April 14, 2015
Today is the day that Lync is forever and always laid to rest. Today Skype for Business takes over, bumping the business communications tool into the East River, concrete galoshes and all. And, all it cost was a simple update.
In the next several weeks, Lync Online will adopt the new Skype for Business experience and Microsoft is planning that all business will accept the changeover by the end of May. Microsoft provides tools to businesses that want to delay the update until testing can be completed, but the change is happening and there's no turning back.
For those interested, Microsoft has now given the update its own KB article. The article details the requirements for the update which include Office 2013 Service Pack 1, the March 2014 Lync 2013 update, and a patch already released to fix an issue with Skype for Business itself.
The KB Article is here: April 14, 2015 update for Skype for Business (KB2889923)
