I love OneNote. I used Evernote for the longest time, but since moving everything to OneNote I've just had a much better experience. Of course, it helps that all of my computers and devices run a Windows 8-type (Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8) of operating system so saved notes and documents are accessible from anywhere.
So, it's great to hear the announcement today that OneNote is now being offered for free. I've heard from others and many are just as happy about this as I am. In addition to making OneNote free, Microsoft is also announcing a Mac version available for download today from iTunes. That means OneNote is now available across all popular platforms including Windows, Windows Phone, Mac, iPad, iPhone, and Android. OneNote for iPad and iPhone released on December 10, 2013 and Android released on January 8, 2014.
To help build a rich ecosystem around OneNote, Microsoft has also unveiled the OneNote Service API, allowing developers to jump on board and start writing OneNote plugins. A few tantalizing pieces have released as part of today's announcement. Some apps of note are the OneNote Clipper (one click web page capturing), Send email to OneNote (email clips to yourself), Office Lens (OCR capability), and IFTTT integration. The full list can be found on the OneNote Apps page.
