OneDrive for Windows Phone Gains Recycle Bin Access

OneDrive for Windows Phone was updated last night, adding a fairly important feature: The ability to access recently deleted files in the Recycle Bin and then optionally restore them.

How far behind is this app? The Recycle Bin was added to the OneDrive service waaaay back in 2012. You know, when it was still called SkyDrive.

In any event, this is a welcome addition to the Windows Phone app. Or apps, really, since OneDrive has been updated on all currently supported Windows Phone versions: 7.5, 8.0 and 8.1. On Windows Phone 8.1, at least, the version number has been bumped to 4.3.

You can access the OneDrive Recycle Bin from the app by displaying the app bar menu (tap the More app bar button, which looks like an ellipsis, or "...") and then scrolling down to the bottom. You'll see a Recycle Bin option there.

Once in the Recycle Bin view, you will see a standard list view, in this case of items that were deleted from OneDrive.

You can select one or more items to delete them permanently or restore them to their original OneDrive location. This interface is actually a bit non-standard: You just tap the item(s) to the select them, instead of enabling a selection mode as in other apps. But it's obvious enough.

Looking through my own Recycle Bin, I see items dating back as far as May, so chances are pretty good you can find what you need if you do inadvertently delete something.

OneDrive 4.3 for Windows Phone also includes some bug fixes and stability improvements, Microsoft says.

You can download OneDrive 4.3 for Windows Phone 7.5, 8 and 8.1 from the Windows Phone Store.
