Microsoft wants you to enhance your dev skills and have some fun at the same time

People learn in many different ways and developers are no different than any other student.

Once you know a skill, improving them is a constant process of keeping up to date on the latest changes. Those things can be learned through reading, videos, and other formats but how about changing things up a little to learn more about the latest Microsoft development tools?

Microsoft is inviting developers to participate in a new one day skills training sessions with a twist.

Mission Mars: Fourth-Horizon is not a third party shooter game with wizbang graphics and aliens coming at you from all corners.

Mission Mars: Fourth Horizon happens in the year 2031 and our planets first mission to the Red Planet is well underway but there has been an issue that needs your problem solving skills to resolve.

That is the premise for this unique day of learning where you will use Microsoft developer tools to help save the critical mission on the surface of Mars.

As I mentioned earlier, these sessions are being held in locations throughout North and South America:

  • Austin, TX

  • Atlanta, GA

  • Bogota, Columbia

  • Boston, MA

  • Buenos Aires, Argentina

  • Florianpolis, Brazil

  • Lima, Peru

  • Mexico City, Mexico

  • Monterrey, Mexico

  • New York, NY

  • Philadelphia, PA

  • San Jose, Costa Rica

  • Santiago, Chile

  • Santo Domingo, Republica Dominicana

  • Sao Paulo, Brazil

  • Seattle, WA

Just head over to the Mission Mars: Fourth-Horizon site, select your location or somewhere nearby that you can travel to, and get signed up.

Once you are there - have some fun building your problem solving and development skills.

Senior Content Producer, IT Pro Today (Informa Tech)

I served for 29 plus years in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer in November 2011. My work background in the Navy was telecommunications related so my hobby of computers fit well with what I did for the Navy. I consider myself a tech geek and enjoy most things in that arena.

My first website – AnotherWin95.com – came online in 1995. Back then I used GeoCities Web Hosting for it and WindowsObserver.com is the result of the work I have done on that site since 1995.

In January 2010 my community contributions were recognized by Microsoft when I received my first Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Award for the Windows Operating System. Since then I have been renewed as a Microsoft MVP each subsequent year since that initial award. I am also a member of the inaugural group of Windows Insider MVPs which began in 2016.

I previously hosted the Observed Tech PODCAST for 10 years and 317 episodes and now host a new podcast called Faith, Tech, and Space.

I began contributing to Penton Technology websites in January 2015 and in April 2017 I was hired as the Senior Content Producer for Penton Technology which is now Informa Tech. In that role, I contribute to ITPro Today and cover operating systems, enterprise technology, and productivity.
