Microsoft Ties OneNote to Sway with Preview Add-in

A new plug-in ties OneNote to Sway. Named Sway My Page Add-in for OneNote, the preview installs for OneNote 2013 or OneNote 2016.

Once installed, a new Sway My Page option sits on the Home menu in OneNote.

Using it is easy. When you activate the Sway My Page component, whatever OneNote page that happens to be in the current view will be included in the process.

Once you’re signed in to your Sway account (Microsoft account) and give the new Sway a title, it only takes a few seconds to “Sway it”.

Once completed, you are presented with both View and Edit links. The process is not a pure embed of the OneNote page, but a full merging of the content so you can edit directly in Sway.

Interestingly enough, no matter which operating system you use (supported: Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1) your new OneNote Sway will open with Internet Explorer. So, link execution seems to be tied directly to ieexplore.exe instead of integrated with the operating system so that your default browser is enacted instead.

It’s an interesting add-in for OneNote. I use OneNote constantly, particularly for interviews and press related content, including photos and notes. I can see a lot of uses for this.

You can download the preview add-in from here: Sway My Page Add-In for OneNote (Preview)

One big note: The preview comes in both x64 and x32 options. Make sure to select the one that matches your Office version. I installed the x64 version first and couldn’t find it after installation. I had to uninstall it and then download the x32 version before OneNote found it. For some reason I thought I had the x64 version of Office 2016 installed on my Surface Pro 3, but now I know that’s not the case.
