Microsoft Starts to Sync Office 365 UIs in New Outlook for Mac Release

Microsoft is continually moving to a unified, uniform interface across each platform for which Office 365 is available. There's been some discussion (grumblings, actually) on the Mac side of Microsoft's customers about when the company might get around to updating its Office products for them.

Today, Microsoft has released a new Outlook for Mac version for those customers subscribed to its Office 365 service. The release brings some improvements and new features, but also brings the design and experience more in line with what exists already for Outlook on the PC, Outlook on the web, and Outlook for iPad, iPhone, and Android.

The improvements available in today's release include:

The new Outlook for Mac is available today for all Office 365 accounts including commercial, home, office, personal, and university and can be obtained from the Office 365 portal.

But, this is a first step. To address questions around Microsoft's commitment for Mac computer-based Office apps, Microsoft will be delivering updates for Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote in the first half of 2015 as public beta and then plan an official, final release in the second half of 2015.
