Microsoft Moving to In-Place .NET Upgrades, Ending Support for Earlier Versions

It seems to be a day for support statements.

Earlier today, Microsoft set a January 12, 2016 deadline for Internet Explorer versions earlier than IE9. January 12, incidentally, happens to be a regularly scheduled Patch Tuesday. So, I guess we can assume Patch Tuesdays aren't going away anytime soon.

This afternoon, Microsoft has made a similar announcement for the .NET Framework. Beginning on January 12, 2016 the only lowest version of .NET 4 the company will support will be version 4.5.2. .NET 3.5 SP1 will still continue to garner support, but that will expire as normal with the expiration of the supported operating system version.

To help ease the burden of organizations who will need to upgrade to the lowest common denominator for .NET, Microsoft is providing in-place updates for the .NET 4.x family.
