Microsoft fixes Outlook 2011 synching issue on OS X El Capitan

Many unsuspecting OS X users, who also used Office for Mac 2011, found themselves unable to unable to sync email using Outlook 2011 when they upgraded to OS X El Capitan.

The issue would cause Outlook 2011 to hang up and the only solutions possible were to revert back to OS X Yosemite or use web based email interfaces until the issue was resolved.

As our own Lisa Schmeiser discovered when this happened to her, using the web for email is a good temporary option but it does not replace the full productivity and functionality of a desktop application.

Microsoft has been aware of the issue between El Capitan and Outlook 2011 since late September and over the last few weeks they have been working on a solution.

That fix has finally arrived in the form of a Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 14.5.6 update.

You can download the update directly from Microsoft at this link:

My first website – AnotherWin95.com – came online in 1995. Back then I used GeoCities Web Hosting for it and WindowsObserver.com is the result of the work I have done on that site since 1995.

In January 2010 my community contributions were recognized by Microsoft when I received my first Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Award for the Windows Operating System. Since then I have been renewed as a Microsoft MVP each subsequent year since that initial award. I am also a member of the inaugural group of Windows Insider MVPs which began in 2016.

I previously hosted the Observed Tech PODCAST for 10 years and 317 episodes and now host a new podcast called Faith, Tech, and Space.

I began contributing to Penton Technology websites in January 2015 and in April 2017 I was hired as the Senior Content Producer for Penton Technology which is now Informa Tech. In that role, I contribute to ITPro Today and cover operating systems, enterprise technology, and productivity.
