Microsoft Brings OneDrive to Amazon Fire OS Devices

Continuing the suddenly escalated pace of porting its mobile apps to Amazon's Fire OS, Microsoft announced this week that OneDrive is now available on the online retailer's Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HDX tablets and Fire Phone. Customers can now download the app from the Amazon Appstore for Android.

"Today, Kindle Fire and Fire phone customers can now do even more with their OneDrive account; they can store, view, and share their favorite photos and important documents right from their phone or tablet," Microsoft OneDrive group program manager Jason Moore writes in a new post to the OneDrive Blog. "With OneNote and OneDrive, these users will have access to their notes and files and the ability to be more productive while on the go."

OneDrive joins OneNote for Fire OS and Skype for Fire OS, both which were released about two weeks ago. Previous to these apps, only a handful of Microsoft apps were available on Amazon's devices. Clearly, that is changing, and as one might consider these three apps—OneDrive, OneNote and Skype—to be the core, if you will, of Microsoft's consumer apps, this is a nice start.

I'm on the road this month and didn't bring an Amazon device to test, so I don't have much more to say about this release. But if you are a Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HDX or Fire Phone user, you can grab OneDrive now for free from the Appstore for Android. (If I'm not mistaken, the app was available previously in the store, but wouldn't work with Amazon's own devices.)
