KB2589275: Microsoft Gives an Update and Workaround for the Office File Associations Bungle

If you've been following along, on Monday we told you about another reported issue with another September Office update where installing KB2589275 caused Office file associations to break. You can read about that here: Punxsutawney Patching Day: KB2589275 Messes up Office file Associations on Windows 7.

The fixes that had been offered up by community members included manually updating the file associations and running an Office repair. Microsoft has posted more information about this issue, stating they are aware of the problem, and then providing the same community fixes as workarounds. They don't indicate if the patch will be fixed and re-released, only offer the workarounds.
