Q. When I connect my Apple iPhone to my Windows Vista machine, the computer displays a blue screen. How can I fix this error?

A. Although you might suspect that this is Microsoft’s ultimate anti-Apple tactic, it’s actually a problem with the USB driver included in iTunes 8.0. To fix the problem, perform these steps:

  1. Start the Programs and Features control panel applet (Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features).

  2. Select Apple Mobile Device Support and click Uninstall.

  3. Select iTunes and click Uninstall.

  4. Restart the computer.

  5. Re-download and install the updated iTunes 8 installer, which contains an updated driver, from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download. Do not use the iTunes8Setup or iTunes864Setup file you previously downloaded.
