In the News - Gates to Update Microsoft's Security Roadmap ==== In the News ==== by Paul Thurrott, [email protected] Gates to Update Microsoft's Security Roadmap At the RSA Conference 2005 in San Francisco today, Microsoft Chairman and Chief Software Architect Bill Gates will outline updates to his company's security roadmap. Most onlookers will be curious to hear whether Gates will provide details about Microsoft's upcoming antivirus solution, which was once expected to ship with Longhorn but is now expected to be available separately sometime this year. Information about Microsoft's antivirus solution will be interesting for the company's corporate and consumer customers, but for many of the company's partners--including antivirus vendors such as McAfee and Symantec--the news will be key to their coexistence strategies going forward. Until recently, Microsoft had shied away from stealing market share from its antivirus partners. But a slew of electronic attacks has forced the company to adopt antivirus, antispyware, and similar security technologies. Aside from information about Microsoft's antivirus solution, I expect Gates to reveal pricing, licensing, and final availability information about Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware, as well as information about the upcoming enterprise edition of that software. Gates should also provide some information about how Microsoft expects to integrate Sybari's security engine into its products. ==== Events and Resources ==== (A complete Web and live events directory brought to you by Windows IT Pro: http://www.windowsitpro.com/events ) Get Ready for SQL Server 2005 Roadshow in a City Near You Get the Facts about Migrating to SQL Server 2005.
