Two Weeks Gone and September’s Lync 2010 Update is Back on Track

Release, remove, rerelease. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Both are cycles related to addressing a need and then readdressing it until absolutely resolute. Such is the way of good hygiene as much as the common steps for patching Microsoft products these days.

Almost immediately after release during this month’s Patch Tuesday, a security update for Lync 2010 (2982385 or MS14-055) was pulled because it simply wouldn’t install. Like trying to fit a round peg in a square hole, I guess, during installation Windows would complain that the “publisher of the driver” couldn’t be verified. Microsoft subsequently removed the available update form it’s Update Catalog and also removed the downloads from the Download Center.

Today, Microsoft is announcing that the Lync 2010 security update is finally fixed up and ready. Available today, 2982385 will be reoffered.

If you’ve put this one out of your mind, you might want to review the security bulletin again. The update is pretty important because the vulnerability could cause a denial of service for affected Lync servers.
