If you experienced the subject behavior, the catalog files failed to install because the %SystemRoot%System32Catroot2Edb.log  file is corrupt.

To resolve the problem:

1. Open a CMD prompt, type del /q "%SystemRoot%System32Catroot2Edb.log", and press Enter.

2. Download and install the security update from http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/Release.asp?ReleaseID=34951.
