At its TrailblazerDX '22 event on April 27, Salesforce launched a series of integrated updates across its software portfolio to help enable automation for IT operations and DevOps.

Salesforce has a growing portfolio of software assets that includes its namesake Salesforce platform, which provides customer relationship management and marketing capabilities; Tableau for data analytics; Slack for collaboration; and MuleSoft for DevOps. In an attempt to unify all of its platforms, Salesforce has a process automation tool called Flow that it is now integrating across the portfolio to improve overall productivity and reduce the risk of developer burnout.

The answer to developer burnout, explained Salesforce co-founder and CTO Parker Harris in a press briefing, is automation and having both no-code and full developer tools to ease process development and service delivery.

"We want to solve problems quickly," Harris said. "We want to deliver an incredible experience for the end user, and we want it to be simple and also beautiful."

Salesforce Flow Integrates with MuleSoft for No-Code Automation

Flow is a suite of automation technologies helping organizations to quickly automate complex business processes using the Salesforce Customer 360 platform, according to Patrick Stokes, executive vice president and general manager of Platform at Salesforce.

At TrailblazerDX '22, Salesforce announced its Flow Orchestration service to simplify multistep and long-running processes flows that require multiple people in an organization to approve or interact with the flow.

"Those are often very difficult to build, and Flow now has the capability to orchestrate these types of very complex flows that might cut across different people, different departments, and different systems," Stokes said.

Salesforce Flow Orchestration is also now integrated with Slack, Tableau, and MuleSoft, enabling complex process orchestration across multiple tools and services. Shaun Clowes, MuleSoft's chief product officer, explained that Flow integrates with MuleSoft's RPA (robotic process automation) tools, which can help create new automation capabilities for IT operations.

MuleSoft Anypoint Code Builder Introduces More Low Code

Alongside the Salesforce Flow integration, MuleSoft is also launching a series of new tools including Anypoint Code Builder, Anypoint Flex Gateway, and Anypoint API Governance.

Anypoint Code Builder is a brand-new integrated development environment for APIs that will help to enable software integration, Clowes said. The tool has a focus on productivity, developer experience, and ease of use, he added. To that end, Anypoint Code Builder has a recommendation engine to help DevOps teams with best practices and embrace code reuse.

To help further improve the state of DevOps, MuleSoft has rolled out Anypoint Flex Gateway, a tool for helping with API management and delivery across different deployment environments. The new Anypoint API Governance tool supplements the gateway with governance capabilities to help identify and control where APIs are being used — to help ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory policies.

"MuleSoft empowers IT to turn every piece of data, every app, and every process into composable building blocks," Clowes said. "That lets IT securely enable any team to automate their business processes, innovate faster, and do their best work from wherever they are."
