SurfControl Reels In BlackSpider

SurfControl completed the acquisition of email and Web security solution provider BlackSpider.

SurfControl announced that it has completed the acquisition of security solution provider BlackSpider. SurfControl said it paid approximately $36 million in cash to close the deal. The company will audit BlackSpider's assests and adjust the purchase price, which could rise to as much as $36.8 million. SurfControl will also assume approximately $2.2 million of BlackSpider's debts.

BlackSpider's solutions offer protection against such as spam, viruses, spyware, phishing and pharming attacks, and other unwanted content, and allow control over employees' Web access. The solutions also include email encryption technologies. 

"BlackSpider's on-demand security services enable us to raise the level of protection for our customers by offering comprehensive protection against Web, email and desktop-based threats in the cloud or within the customer's network. SurfControl and our partners now have a flexible, customisable security solution for all sizes of enterprise that is easy-to-implement and cost effective," said Patricia Sueltz, CEO at SurfControl. 

BlackSpider currently provides subscription services to more than 1,200 customers and will  operate as an on-demand security service of SurfControl.
