Ilfak Guilfanov released an unofficial patch for the WMF vulnerability to protect Windows 2000 and Windows XP. But what about users of previous Windows operating systems? When Microsoft releases its official patch will the company make the patch available for older unsupported versions of Windows? I don't know, but I bet users of older versions of Windows would enjoy some sort of protection against the 200+ WMF exploit variations in existance so far.

Cross-platform antivirus maker Eset released its own unofficial patch that is supposed to work on all versions of Windows, including Windows 9x, Windows ME, and Windows NT. The patch is linked at Eset's Web site
