In Windows XP, you could add an icon to the Quick Launch tool bar by using drag and drop, or by copying a shortcut directly to the "%USERPROFILE%Application DataMicrosoftInternet ExplorerQuick Launch" folder.

In Windows Vista, when you right-click an application in Windows Explorer, the context menu contains Add to Quick Launch.
