IT Innovators: SDDC Trained IT Pros Wanted
To fully leverage the software-defined data center concept, you and your team must have the right skill sets in place.
February 3, 2016
A while back I wrote a blog on the need for hybrid cloud trained IT professionals. Since I also spend a lot of time talking about the Software Defined Data Center (SDDC), I thought it made sense to broach that subject matter as well.
Like the hybrid cloud, the SDDC is changing the way things are done today. With the adoption of SDDC, organizations are beginning to turn away from the use of traditional IT infrastructure in favor of one where the functionality is separated from the underlying hardware. The benefit, of course, is automation, flexibility and increased scalability. It can also help reduce data center complexity and lower cost, which in the end, makes organizations much more agile and competitive.
If you want to be involved with the SDDC at any level, even if you are an executive, you will need to familiarize yourself with what it is and how it works. Depending on your planned level of involvement, that “learning” might entail something as little as say, a webcast on the “ins and outs” of the SDDC, or it might require something a bit more involved, like certification. Either way, I’ve assembled some resources for you below to help you get started.
Best Data Center Certifications for 2016. This article from Tom’s IT PRO, runs down the top 5 data center certifications for IT professionals.

It also details leading SDDC products and documents their benefits and shortcomings. There are also a range of downloadable classes on cloud infrastructure and SDDC available in ipSpace’s Cloud infrastructure and SDDC webinar series.
As with the hybrid cloud and other emerging storage and networking technologies, certification and training will be critical for IT professionals and others wanting to be successful in using and implementing them. If you plan to play a role in any part of the SDDC, you would do well to start getting the educational background you need today.
If you want to weigh in on this discussion, or have information on other SDDC educational resources you want to share, email me at [email protected]. In the meantime, be sure and check back here next week for more information on the hybrid cloud and other important IT-related topics.
