The Case of the Missing Companion Content for Your Microsoft Press Books

In April 2014, Microsoft announced that Pearson Education was set to take over the Microsoft Press contract that had been fulfilled by O'Reilly Media for some time. Then, at the beginning of May, a new Pearson-hosted Microsoft Press web store opened for business.

Apparently due to the new web store, some of the additional book content (companion content) seems to be missing—or at least not as easy to locate as it once was. Microsoft has issued a statement to say that the content is still available, just not accessible in the same way, due to changed URLs and short URLs that are no longer valid. The issue is being worked on, but in the interim, you can still get to the companion content for your books by doing the following:

  1. Go to the Microsoft Press store: http://www.microsoftpressstore.com/ and login.

  2. Use the site search to locate your book and click to access the book's page.

  3. On the book's page you'll see a Downloads tab. Click it to change the page focus.

On the Downloads tab is where you'll be able to find companion content for the book, if it exists. Stored in .zip format, just download the single file and extract its contents to your local computer.
