Q: Now that update rollups for System Center ship through Windows Update, do I need to read the release notes?

A: Although Windows Update delivers the binary updates to System Center, it's still important to read the release notes for each update rollup for System Center. There are often tasks that must be performed post-update rollup installation, such as updating agents or running SQL queries that aren't performed automatically. Sometimes, functionality is adversely affected until these tasks are completed. When you're ready to apply an update rollup, you should download the release notes, read them thoroughly, make sure you understand any manual actions that will be required, and only then apply the update rollup. You can find the Update Rollup 4 for System Center 2012 R2 on the Microsoft Support site.
