SCCM Distribution Point Problems Related to IIS 6 Missing Components

Q: Content isn't being sent correctly to my distribution points in my System Center 2012 Configuration Manager deployments; I'm receiving 8004100E errors. Why?

A: The most common cause I've seen for this error when examining the distmgr.log file with CMTRACE (which is on the System Center Configuration Manager media in the SMSSETUPTOOLS folder) is that you don't have the required IIS compatibility role services installed; specifically:

  • IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility

  • IIS 6 Management Console

  • IIS 6 WMI Compatibility

After you install these role services, the problems related to error 8004100E for distribution point population should be solved.
