Q. How do you create custom Windows Media Video (WMV) profiles in Windows Movie Maker?
October 27, 2008
A. Several WMV profiles exist in Movie Maker by default, such as High Quality local playback and portable devices. If you want to create custom profiles, follow these steps:
1. First, download Windows Media Encoder. Both 32- and 64-bit versions are available.
2. Once you’ve installed Media Encoder, launch Windows Media Profile Editor, one of the utilities installed as part of Media Encoder, from the Utility programs subfolder in the Windows Media Start menu folder.
3. Now you can select options such as bit rate and type of encoding. In the following screenshot, I've selected a variable bit rate (VBR), which means the bit rate used for encoding will differ according to the amount of data required to create a set picture quality. You can also select a constant bit rate (CBR) to make the encoded file use a set, constant bit rate.
4. Once you’ve made your selections, save the profile to C:Program FilesMovie Maker 2.6SharedProfiles for 32-bit systems or C:Program Files (x86)Movie Maker 2.6SharedProfiles for 64-bit systems. Restart Movie Maker, and the new WMV profile will be available as an output-format option.
